Sydney (Syd) McConville was born on 14th January 1908. On 9th November 1938 he married Lilian Barlow, a local girl, and the couple ran a grocery business in Oxford Road, Altrincham. During the Second World War, Syd served as a petty officer in the Royal Navy. Shortly after the war, he moved his grocery business to Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire. Syd died on 29th October 1977.
