Andrew McConville, our ancestor, was born in or near to Newry in County Down, Ireland, in 1841. We believe that his parent's names were James and Cecily. He left Ireland about 1854 and settled in Altrincham, a small market town in Cheshire, which at that time was expanding rapidly due to the coming of the railway. He obtained employment in the building industry and in time became a bricklayer. On 18th June 1860 he married Martha Hughes, born in Altrincham on 31st March 1841, the daughter of Irish parents. They were married at St Vincent's Catholic church in Altrincham.
Martha bore him four children.
